Steven M. Dicker

Steve is a founding and managing partner of the firm. A New York native, Steve came to the Chicago area to attend law school at The John Marshall Law School. After completing his legal education, Steve worked as an associate at a personal injury law firm. In 1986, Steve began his own firm with his wife, Joanne. For over 40 years, Steve has represented thousands of individuals and families who have been injured in motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, dog bite accidents, and physical and sexual abuse.

Steve is an expert negotiator who has achieved millions of dollars in settlements for clients over the years. He successfully negotiated a settlement in the amount of $1.65 million against the Chicago Archdiocese for a minor who was sexually abused by a priest. Steve has tried numerous cases to verdict in Cook County, and the suburban counties.

He regularly serves as an arbitrator in the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration System in which he serves as the lead arbitrator in hearing and deciding evidence in cases.

Steve is a long standing member of the Illinois Trial Lawyer Association (ITLA). He has taught Personal Injury Litigation to Paralegals and has supervised paralegal students doing their internships in our office.

Steve is an avid sports fan, particularly when it comes to the New York Yankees. He enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures and sights. His travels have taken him all over the world including to Antarctica where he walked among the penguins. Most of all, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, especially his three young grandsons.

Joanne Pyes Dicker

Joanne is a founding partner of the firm who began her legal career as a general practice attorney. Over the last 40 years, she has specialized in residential real estate transactions. Joanne has helped thousands of individuals and families buy and sell their homes throughout the Chicagoland area and neighboring suburbs. She takes a personal approach to each transaction and is involved in every step of the process. Her vast experience and attention to detail contribute to her success and client satisfaction.

Joanne is a member of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association (IRELA) and the Chicago Land Agency Services (CLAS) and is an attorney title insurance agent with Chicago Title Insurance Company.

Joanne regularly serves as an Arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration System. She has heard evidence in hundreds of cases encompassing all areas of the law.

In her free time, Joanne is active in the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council. She is the past president of the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council, a not for profit organization which she has served on the board for over 20 years. In her work in this organization, Joanne coordinates efforts among differing faiths to work collaboratively and give back to their communities through supporting local food pantries, organizing the annual "i-Walk" against hunger, fighting illiteracy, speaking out against intolerance, and racism. She is also active in a women's networking group which seeks to connect and support professional women. As a member of the Buffalo Grove Garden Club and Buffalo Grove Readers, Joanne pursues her passions of gardening and reading. Her favorite pastime, however, is spending time with her three grandsons.

Sandra L. Ruiz

Since joining the firm in 1998, Sandra has worked in various capacities including as a law clerk and Associate Attorney before being named a Partner in January 2019. Sandra practices in all areas of personal injury law, including cases related to motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, slip and fall accidents, dog bite accidents, and physical and sexual abuse cases.

Since beginning her legal career, Sandra has tried several cases to verdict in Cook County, as well as Will, DuPage, and Lake Counties. She has regularly participated in mediations, arbitration hearings, and pre-trial conferences, successfully obtaining settlements on behalf of her clients.

Sandra is a graduate of The John Marshall Law School where she served as an Editor of The John Marshall Law Review. Prior to attending law school, Sandra was employed as a School Social Worker after earning a Masters Degree in Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

A native Chicagoan and proud daughter of a retired Chicago Police Sergeant, Sandra credits her strong work ethic to her parents. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their twins, and traveling.

Legal Assistant

Melissa Bermejo

Melissa is our firm's legal assistant and office manager. She began as an intern in 2004 and became a full time staff member in 2005. Melissa is an integral part of our firm. She is often the first point of contact and maintains regular communication with our clients throughout the course of our representation.
